One of Close Up’s 2019 / 2020 projects – SILENT HOUSE – has had quite an exciting few months! We are very happy to share below the amazing updates on this powerful Iranian project.

In SILENT HOUSE, filmmakers and siblings discuss their family’s history with their mother who lives with her family in their ancestral home in the heart of Tehran.

● Won the Al Jazeera Balkans Award at ZagrebDox Pro in June, which comes with €1,000 for further development. The jury mentioned: “Through archival family footage, narrativized with contemporary images and conversations with their mother, the two filmmakers, a sister and her young brother, will portray the family’s evolution over the course of 40 years in Iran. Their journey will not only reveal a unique directorial approach, but will also offer us an opportunity to hear the voices of the current generation.”

● Selected to Docs By The Sea Accelerator 2021 Editing Lab and granted three free Rough Cut Service sessions in July

● Won the Excellent Project cash award at DMZ Industry in September

● Awarded post-production funding from the National Film Board of Canada‘s Filmmaker Assistance Program (FAP), making the film officially a co-production of Iran, Canada, and the Philippines

Congratulations to directors Farnaz Jurabchian and Mohammedreza Jurabchian! We can’t wait to see the final film.
